This White Paper has been created by several members of the LoRa Alliance® with the sole purpose of pushing forward the benefits of battery-free IoT deployments worldwide. With thanks to Dracula Technologies, Dryad, MClimate, Micropelt and MultiTech.
LoRaWAN technology is at the forefront of low-power, long-range communications for Internet of Things (IoT) applications. Traditionally, the energy demands of IoT devices have been met through batteries, but these introduce potentially, depending on the use case, significant challenges in terms of maintenance, environmental impact, and lifecycle limitations. This white paper explores how eliminating batteries in IoT devices through the use of different energy harvesting technologies can significantly enhance the sustainability, scalability, and reliability of LoRaWAN-based systems in a cost- effective manner.
